Are you a radical Christian?  Don’t worry!  By “radical,” I don’t mean a “wild-eyed fanatic.”  No, the word radical comes from the Latin radix which means “root.”  A radical Christian, then, is one whose life is deeply rooted in Christ Jesus.  Although Peter was speaking to the women of the Church in 1 Peter 3, the image he uses is a powerful one that applies to us all.  Our “beauty,” that which would draw others to come to Christ, is not of outward form, manner, or dress.  It is, rather, the “hidden man of the heart” that shines forth from within us.  Remember, Jesus told us that we are the “light of the world” (Matt. 5:14).  As our “hidden man” shines forth with the Spirit and the Love of God, it is equally powerful to hold within our hearts the image of  Hebrews 6:19 wherein we have the affirmation that Jesus, in whom we are deeply rooted, is also the “anchor of our soul,” and that anchor is lodged in, buried deeply within the heart of the very Throne of God (6:19b).  That is why the writer of Hebrews also exhorts us to “come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (4:16). ~ Sweet!
